In the spring of 1837, the village was first settled by Andres Baxter. The following year, Curtis Reed, who was the first town chairman, became the first postmaster. There were already 335 settlers after it was established in 1840.
The village of Summit has a total area of 28.5 square miles, of which 25.8 square miles is land and 2.8 square miles is water.
It is located along Interstate-94 and offers a friendly and safe atmosphere. Summit has an excellent rural and lake county environment. It is close to metropolitan amenities like professional sporting events and various entertainments.

The nearby community of the City of Oconomowoc offers two state of the art hospitals, national and regional distribution centers, business parks, national chain restaurants, specialty shops, ski hill, conference center, and recreation club.
